Chennai Breast Centre support group meets every second Saturday to discuss on relevant issues faced by
the patients. These discussions not only help the members to clear their doubts but it also helps to
educate newcomers.

Dr. Selvi who is not just a doctor but is the best friend of her patients began to answer the questions
one by one in a step by step process. She dispelled all fears of the mothers who had daughters and in
some cases the sons too.. She clearly explained that the genetic risk was 5 to 10%. Mutation of genes
was also a cause. She said early onset of menstruation and late menopause may also induce breast cancer.
Late pregnancy and obesity enhanced the risk. Stress was another important contributor. The doctor
explained about BRCA I & II. Dr Selvi simplified the medical terms so that even a lay person in the hall
could understand. 
Men who accompanied their spouses had many valid doubts and were cleared by doctor Selvi. Patients from
Coimbatore and far off places had come. In all it was a healthy discussion and many myths were
busted.

நம் குழுவின் இரண்டாவது சந்திப்பு 11/5/2019 அன்று சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது. இம்முறை உறுப்பினர்கள் மட்டுமின்றி
அவர்களின் குடும்ப உறுப்பினர்களும் பங்கேற்க அழைக்கப் பட்டிருந்தனர்.
டாக்டர் செல்வி ராதாகிருஷ்ணா அவர்கள் மார்பக புற்றுநோயின் மரபுவழி அபாயத்தை பற்றிய கட்டுக்கதைகள் குறித்த
வினாக்களுக்கு விடையளித்தும், இந்நோய் பற்றிய தவறான கருத்துக்களை நீக்கும் பொருட்டும் ஆற்றிய உரையாடல்
முக்கிய நிகழ்வாக ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது.
திருமதி. ஸ்ரீதேவி முதலில் எல்லோரையும் வரவேற்று அவருக்கே உரிய துள்ளலான பாணியில் நிகழ்ச்சியை வடை, பாயாசத்துடன்
விருந்து.... இல்லையில்லை விளையாட்டாகத் தொடங்கி வைத்தார்! வந்திருந்த அனைவரும் வயதை மறந்து உற்சாகமாக
விளையாடினோம்!
பிறகு "தாளாண்மை என்னும் தகைமைக்கண் தங்கிற்றே வேளாண்மை என்னுஞ் செருக்கு" என்ற திருக்குறளுக்கு விளக்கம் அளித்தேன்
திருமதி. சீதா ராமச்சந்திரன் ஆகிய நான். அடுத்து திருமதி பத்மா பிரசாத், டாக்டர் செல்வி அவர்களுடனான தன் அறிமுகம்
மற்றும் அனுபவம் ஆகியவற்றை நம்முடன் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார்.
தொடர்ந்தது டாக்டர் செல்வி அவர்களுடனான கேள்வி பதில் நேரம்! மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் பரம்பரை நோயா?, தாயாரிடம் இருந்து
ஆண் வாரிசுகளுக்குப் பரவுமா?, எந்த வயதிலிருந்து முறையாகப் பரிசோதனை செய்து கொள்ள வேண்டும்?, யாருக்கெல்லாம் மார்பக
புற்று நோய் வரக்கூடிய வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது?, ஆண்களுக்கு வரக்கூடிய ப்ரோஸ்டேட், மற்றும் சிறுகுடல், பெருங்குடல்
புற்றுநோய் பற்றிய எல்லா வினாக்களுக்கும் டாக்டர் செல்வி விரிவாகவும் தெளிவாகவும் விடையளித்தார்.
அவற்றில் இருந்து டெக்னிக்கல் விஷயங்களைத் தவிர்த்து பொதுவான தகவல்களை மட்டும் இங்கு பதிவு செய்கிறேன்.
1) பரம்பரையாக வரக்கூடிய மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் முதல் முறையாகப்
பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களின் வாரிசுகளுக்கு வரும் வாய்ப்பு 5 முதல் 6 விழுக்காடு மட்டுமே. மூன்று, நான்கு தலை முறைகளில்
பாதிப்பு இருந்திருக்கும் பட்சத்தில் இது 60/65 விழுக்காடாக அதிகரிக்கும்.
2) மிகச் சிறிய வயதில் (7/8) பூப்படைதல், மிக அதிகமான உடல் எடை (அதனால் ஈஸ்ட்ரோஜன் அதிக அளவில்
உற்பத்தியாதல்)
3) மிக அதிகமான உதிரப்போக்குடன் கூடிய வழக்கத்தை விட நீண்ட நாட்கள் நீடிக்கும் மாதவிடாய்க் காலங்கள்
4) மார்பகப் புற்றுநோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பெண்களின் ஆண்குழந்தைகள் வெறும் கடத்திகளாக(Carriers)மட்டுமே செயல்
படுவார்கள்
5) பருவமெய்திய பெண்கள் அனைவருமே குடும்பத்தில் எவருக்கேனும் புற்றுநோய் வந்திருந்தாலும் இல்லையென்றாலும் ஒரு
மருத்துவரின் ஆலோசனை பெற்று கீழ்க்கண்ட பரிசோதனைகளை ஆண்டுதோறும் செய்துகொள்வது அவசியம்
மாமோகிராஃபி எனப்படும் மார்பகப் பரிசோதனை, ER, PR, HER2 எனப்படும் பரிசோதனை, BRCA ANTGEN என்ற புற்றுநோய்
சுட்டிகள் குறித்த பரிசோதனை இவை முக்கியமானவை.
இந்தப் பரிசோதனைகளின் முடிவுகளின் அடிப்படையில் நோய் இருக்கிறதா, எந்த நிலையில் இருக்கிறது, மார்பகத்தை முற்றிலும்
அகற்ற வேண்டுமா என்பது போன்ற முடிவுகளை உங்கள் டாக்டர் மேற்கொள்வார். எத்தனை விரைவில் நோய் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்படுகிறதோ
அத்தனை அளவுக்கு முற்றிலும் குணமடைய வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது. புற்றுநோய் பற்றிய வீண் அச்சங்களைத் தவிர்த்து மன உறுதியுடன்
எதிர் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
இந்த வினா, விடை நிகழ்ச்சி முடிந்ததும் அனைவரையும் இயல்பு நிலைக்குக் கொண்டு வரும் விதமாக ஒரு விளையாட்டைத் தொடங்கி
வைத்தார்! வந்திருந்த அனைவரும் நான்கு குழுக்களாகப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டனர்! சொற்கள் எழுதப்பட்ட துண்டுச் சீட்டுகள்
கொண்ட ஓரு சிறு கூடையிலிருந்து ஓரு சீட்டை எடுத்து அதிலிருக்கும் சொல் வருமாறு ஒரு பாடல் பாட வேண்டும்! அப்பப்பா!
ஹிந்தியிலும் தமிழிலும் புதிய பாடல்களிலிருந்து இத்தனை நாட்கள் மறந்தே போயிருந்த பழைய பாடல்கள் வரை...... ஆண்கள்
பெண்கள் அனைவருமே தூள் கிளப்பி விட்டார்கள்! அந்த ஆரவாரம் அடங்கியதும் காஃபி, டீ சிற்றுண்டி என " செவிக்குணவு
படைத்த பின்னர் சிறிது வயிற்றுக்கும் ஈயப்பட்டது"
இந்நிகழ்ச்சியின் இன்னொரு சிறப்பு அம்சம் திருமதி ஜெயஸ்ரீ மற்றும் குழுவினரின் தகவல் பரிமாற்றம். மார்பகங்கள்
நீக்கிய பிறகு அணிந்துகொள்ளக் கூடிய செயற்கை மார்பகம் தயாரிக்கும் முறையைப் பற்றி செயல் விளக்கம்
அளித்ததாகும்.
இம்முறையில் இரண்டாவது சந்திப்பும் இனிதே நிறைவுற்றது!

Every day is a busy day at CBC. Up and down, side to side, back and forth the girls attend to the
patients with care. They know their drill throughly that everything happens without any hiccup for the
patient. Any glitch is addressed by stepping in and supporting by the others too. Till the OPD gets over
they are on their toes. Yes, it is not easy!
When asked how do you deal with the hectic work when you might be coming from different scenarios from
home. They all spoke the same language and that is…
- Patients are our priority
- We drop all the family issues outside just like we leave our footwear
- Whatever happens during the OPD is forgotten and we are all smiles when we sit for lunch
Eating together is a ritual that these girls enjoy. No matter how long the others take to finish their
work, they wait for each other for this valuable time. This is the time the clinic is filled with
unwinding chatter of these young ladies. Some serious sharing from home front to the silliest witty
incident of the day are part of these conversations.
CBC is blessed with a wonderful team of good souls....
SUMMER TRIP AT CBC
What is to hear squeals of laughter in a clinic...no, not in a pediatric clinic. It was a more than a
merry day at Chennai Breast Centre when the children of all staff came together for a short trip this
vacation.
The pictures here will speak for themselves of the merriment.
Started with tic-tac-toe, Chinese whisper, cracking wooden puzzles and so on.
Then the real fun started. Yes, we went out in the blazing sun, of course in an air-conditioned car. All
the way singing and laughing...
After visiting an aquarium, we stepped out in awe about the sea creatures and proceeded to enjoy the
view of Chennai from the lighthouse. What a breeze...
What is a trip without filling the tummies with icecreams!!
Returned to the clinic for a sumptuous lunch. Quiet time with drawings and colouring happened before a
boisterous game.
