Breast Pathology

Breast cancer surgery is the main component of breast cancer treatment that involves removing the cancer. The surgery could be just removal of the lump or removal of the entire breast along with the axillary nodal assessment or clearance. Breast cancer surgery may be used alone or in combination with other treatments, such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy and radiation therapy.

  • Anatomic pathology plays a key role in patient care through disease diagnosis and management. The Breast Pathology Service at Chennai Breast centre provides diagnostic expertise in the interpretation of breast lesions from various specimen types, including needle core biopsies, Stereotactic biopsies, lumpectomies, and mastectomy specimens. We also provide consultation services for samples referred to our centre for second opinions.
  • Being an integrated and comprehensive centre , our pathologist works in close unison with the radiology and treating team to give accurate and quick reports by utilizing a subspecialty expert sign-out system and state-of-the-art technology including imported Automated instruments for efficient patient management.
  • To complement the traditional histologic diagnosis of breast cancer, our pathologists also provide interpretation of special studies, such as immunohistochemistry testing and frozen sections.
  • Along with routine diagnostic workup, our pathology lab is future oriented preserving and archiving tumour tissues in the tumor bank for future research.
